Look Good . . . Feel Better is a free, national public service program dedicated to teaching women and teen-age cancer
patients the techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image, and how to deal with the sociological side effects
they experience during treatment. LGFB includes separate programs for women and teenagers, as well as a Spanish program.
Carol Walker, of Ithaca Michigan is currently the American Cancer Society Capital Area Service Center Trainer serving,
Ingham, Eaton, Gratiot, Clinton and Isabella Counties. This specific region serves nearly 50 in this past year. Nationally
this Women's Program is currently serving approximately 30,000 patients actively undergoing treatment for cancer. The Teen
Program is open to boys and girls ages 13-17 who are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for any kind of cancer,
and offers tips on skin care, hair, nutrition, exercise and fitness, and social life. The Spanish Program provides all information
and services in Spanish.
Look Good . . . Feel Better offers:
* Two-hour group makeover workshops. These group programs are offered in cancer centers, hospitals, and other community
settings across the country. The participants learn beauty techniques in skin care, makeup, hair, and nails in a hands-on
class using actual products. Demonstrations of the use of wigs, hats, turbans and scarf tying techniques are also included.
Participants receive a take-home instruction booklet and a complimentary kit of cosmetics.
* One-on-one salon consultations. These are available at select salon locations for those who cannot attend a group
session or who would prefer a private setting.
* Education materials. A self-help kit in a 30-minute video with a companion instructional booklet are provided.
